Peppermint plants are popular as ornamental and are often grown in baskets on country porches to ward off mosquitoes. It is used in animal beds to ward off fleas. This fragrant herbs is also a favorite for use in teas. The leaves and stems contain an oil that is used medicinally. They are also used in our toothpaste, gum, and many massage oils.

Peppermint plants are excellent companion plants for the garden. They repel ants, white cabbage moths, aphids, and flea beetles. Grow it in a container. It tends to spread rapidly. Some gardeners (me) consider them invasive weeds. It grow to about 2 – 3 feet tall. They bloom from July through  August, and will sprout small purple flowers.
