About Us

My journey into Surreal Gardening began with a passion for sustainability and a love for nature. Since childhood, I’ve been captivated by the intricate handiwork of gardeners and the stories behind their creations. My goal is simple just reconnecting the bond between human and plant. I am building a life by sharing my love for plants. As a big plant nerd, I enjoy helping others learn. I aim to connect with their inner plant nerd. I have found a way to share some common uses of herbs through my workshops.

We were raised with herbs, so they have always been a part of my life. My mom and I began Surreal Gardening because we wanted to share information with others. This could help others take care of their own human needs. We love to garden and grow things and use everything we grow. I love living together with all the plants.

I met an amazing woman, she has taken the time to meet all my plants. She has even claimed some as her own now. I didn’t know at that time that she was going to become such a huge part of this gardening adventure. All three of us have roles within our small business. We love to share information about plants and encourage and help others learn to research various herbs. We share our stories and invite others to share theirs. Every illness has a plant or various plants that can help. Every plant has a purpose in one way or another. The plant kingdom has so much to teach us. I am eager to learn and share with others what I learn along the way.

What we do

Once a month we hold workshops discussing the many ways in which herbs can be added into our daily lives. Every month we choose a different herb. The idea for these herbal workshops came from my enjoyment of herbal gatherings. I once did these gatherings with some old friends, there were five of us. We gathered once a month, had a potluck and learned from each other. Each chose an herb, we researched it, typed up our research and printed each person a copy. We created something from the herb for everyone and gave each person a small jar of the herb. Finally, we had everyone craft something out of the herb at the gathering.

For me that was like Christmas once a month. I would come home with five different herbs to add to my herb collection plus the goodies. Some new pages to add to my herb binder. I attempted to recreate a monthly gathering like that a few times. Never worked out very well, not everyone likes research.

So now once a month, people gather during our monthly workshops to learn about different herbs. They go home with a bag of goodies that we created. Kathy always creates food and beverages with the monthly herb infused. Everyone tries something created with the herb. As well as drinking the infused herb. We always find something simple that they can create at the workshop with the herb. I gather interesting facts and opinions about the herb and print copies out. Then, I put the copies into a folder. Everyone’s first workshop they get a folder. When they return, we continue to print out the herbal info for them to add to their folders. They listen to me geek out about the herb. They are enjoying something marvelous that Kathy has created from the herb of the month.
