Peppermint plants are popular as ornamental and are often grown in baskets on country porches to ward off mosquitoes. It is used in animal beds to ward off fleas. This fragrant herbs is also a favorite for use in teas. The leaves and stems, which contain an oil, are used medicinally and in our toothpaste, and gum
and many Massage Oils.
Growing Peppermint
Peppermint plants are excellent companion plant for the garden because it repels ants, white cabbage moths, aphids, and flea beetles from the garden. Grow it in a container because it tends to spread rapidly to the point that some gardeners (me) consider them invasive weeds.
Peppermint plants grow to about 2 - 3 feet tall. They bloom from July through August, and will sprout small purple flowers.
Peppermint Tea
Steep 1 tsp. dried peppermint leaves in 1 cup boiling water for 10 minutes; strain and cool. Drink 3 - 4 times per day between meals.
